Hello Mark,
I am very sorry and disappointed, that your show "People Helping People" was cancelled.
Perhaps in very short time I will be able to listen to you again as will many other people who, I am certain, miss your presence on the radio and the helping hand that you have offered.

One of the people is Wayne - I realize, it is difficult to remember all of the people that had called your show, but I would like to refresh your memory a little...
He called you three times - the first time during the pre-Christmas season - that was the time you suggested to call you again at certain day and be sober. He promised he would and he did.
You were one of the major driving forces that made him to realize that he needed a professional help with his alcohol addiction.

WHO takes on the tobacco lobby

EDITORIAL - The Japan Times Online

Tobacco causes 4 million deaths each year -- one life every eight seconds. Unless action is taken, that number is expected to grow to 10 million by 2030. Government representatives convened in Geneva last week under the auspices of the World Health Organization to resume discussion on the world's first convention to regulate the use of tobacco. It promises to be an uphill fight.

Learning From Robert Downey Jr.

By Joseph A. Califano Jr.
The Washington Post

The relapses of actor Robert Downey Jr. and athlete Darryl Strawberry are being cited in supporting briefs of extremists at both ends of the drug policy debate: those arguing for legalization and those pressing to lock up addicts and throw away the keys until they cure themselves.

By Mark Elliot

Getting sober is the first step in recovery from addiction. You’re given a whole year to work on getting it right. During the first year of recovery the number one priority is to: Stay sober; Learn the steps and traditions, and apply them in your life.

I look back on that first year as an oasis in the sense that I only had to worry about myself. It was a year of straightening out problems and coming to terms with not using drugs or drinking. Getting used to having my feet on the ground, instead of my nose .
