Hi Mark,
you sounded a wee bit frazzled after taking the call from "Marla" the Nutra nut tonight...guess she was squeezing your last nerve...>grin< Yep, mine too, I just thought I'd share that with you.
I've been listening to you for, oh, a number of months as I'm a bit of a night owl and just wanted to thank you for being you, I appreciate your point of view, your "spirituality" (this from a confirmed agnostic!!) and just your wacky sense of humor.
Almost the first time I heard you on the air, I marveled at your openness, the baring of your soul...I recognized the courage you possess ...remarkable.

Elder addicts

(CNN) - A government study shows that 17 percent of people over the age of 60 abuse alcohol and prescription or over-the-counter drugs. But an even more hidden problem is that of illicit drug use.

"Elderly drug abuse is a significant problem that has gotten far too little attention," said Peter Provet, president of New York-based Odyssey House Inc., a residential treatment organization. "The vast majority of the people in our program abuse illicit drugs and alcohol - alcohol, crack cocaine and heroin in that order."

Heroin

Fighting drugs in
a small community

Young people treat heroin
as just another extreme sport

Since early 1998, I’ve witnessed a wave of heroin sweep through the streets of of Mifflin County, Pa., a rural area with a population of less than 50,000. Normally, it is a great benefit to live in a tight, caring community where everyone seems to know everyone else. However, this seems to be a detriment in the fight against drugs, especially heroin.

Recreational Pharmaceuticals
Finding new party drugs like K and ecstasy won't be easy

In the past few months, it's become nearly impossible to buy Ketaset in New York City's underground drug market. Made by Fort Dodge, an Iowa-based pharmaceutical firm, Ketaset is a brand of ketamine, a compound that blocks certain neuroreceptors, causing hallucinations in high doses and, in lower doses, a fuzzy dissociation — like the warmth of a couple of Jim Beams.

How Detaching Can Be Loving For All

By Wayland Myers, Ph.D

"Detachment is a means whereby we allow others the opportunity to learn how to care for themselves better." This statement helped me make a quantum leap in my understanding of how detaching from others could be loving. Last month, I shared that I heard this from a family program counselor. Hearing her left me amazed and disoriented. For the first time, I began realizing that abstaining from my attempts to protect or manage others could be a gift to them.
